Victoria Derby Betting

The Victoria Derby is a hugely bet on event in Australian thoroughbred horse racing and although it plays second fiddle to the Melbourne Cup in terms of interest it is still a huge race in its own right. James Scobie is the most successful trainer in the races history having won the Derby seight times at the turn of the last century. Last year's winner Rebel Raider broke history as it was the first horse to win ridden by a femail jockey, Claire Lindop. Shamoline Warrior, Rockferry and Monaco Consul are amongst the main contenders at the head of the betting.

Mackinnon Stakes Betting

Run over a mile and a quarter, the Mackinnon Stakes is the second most expensive race on Victoria Derby Day and seen by many as a Melbourne Cup trial. Rogan Josh was the last horse to win the Mackinnon Stakes and the Melbourne Cup in the same season and the Bart Cummings trained Viewed is one of a selection of runners entered in both races.

Coolmore Stud Stakes Betting

Another Group 1 contest the Coolmore Stud Stakes is worth a cool half a million Australian dollars to the winner and is run at set weights.

Myer Classic Betting

The Myer Classic is another Group 1 Australian thoroughbred horse race held on Victoria Derby Day held under weight-for-age conditions for fillies and mares aged three years and up. Half a million Australian dollars are on offer for the winner.

Wakeful Stakes Betting

The Wakeful Stakes is a Group 2 event for three year old fillies and is seen by many as a trial for the VRC Oaks. Thirteen fillies have gone on to win the Oaks from the Wakeful Stakes since 1978 and Rocha won the contest in 2008.

Salinger Stakes Betting

The Salinger Stakes was downgraded to Group 2 status in 2007 but takes nothing away from the spectacle in this open handicap run over 1200 metres. Hot Danish won this race in 2008.

Carbine Club Stakes Betting

The Carbine Club Stakes is a Group 3 race run on Victoria Derby Day for three year olds over a distance of 1600 metres. This mile event off set weights and penalties attracts a good quality field, many of whom will go on to race in the Sandown Guineas later in the year.

Lexus Stakes (Saab Quality) Betting

Formally known as the Saab Quality this Group 3 handicap for horses aged four years an upwards is another race that has been used as a trial by Melbourne Cup runners. Brew managed to win both races back in 2000.
